The Story of Hong Gildong

Based on a fictional book about a Robin Hood in Korea, Hong Gil Dong. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Gildong), this drama is very loosely based off of that book and the time it was set in.

Hong Gil Dong is the bastard son of a minister. He spends most of his time lazing the day away and taking goods from the various merchants. However, a local monk think he’s destined to be more. Hong Gil Dong, for his part, really dislikes the injustices in this ranked world.

Heo Yi Nok has returned to Korea, fresh from China. She’s an upbeat, naive and carefree girl. She’s been living with her grandfather for the last few years. They both are merchants looking to make a fortune back in Korea.

Lee Chang Hwi, however, has been told since he was young that he’s the rightful king of Korea. He bumps into Heo Yi Nok. This initially causes misunderstanding between them, but over time his heart is softeningHong Gil Dong towards her.

Meanwhile Heo Yi Nok and Hong Gil Dong are developing a friendship that feels like (at least to Yi Nok) that it could be more.

As the question of rightful succession comes into play, Hong Gil Dong and Yi Nok are forced to take sides.

The Story of Hong Gildong 2
Due to the strict Confucian laws of the Joseon Dynasty, Hur expressed his ideas in this novel, where Hong, born an illegitimate child, is not accepted by his father and family. His father, after hearing from a shaman that his son is cursed, attempts to kill him but fails. Shocked and appalled at his father’s actions, he goes out into the world, where he becomes a bandit leader. He becomes a bandit for the people, and steals from the rich only to give to the poor. His popularity within the peasant society soars, and many view him as a hero. Because of this, he is wanted by the government under Yeonsangun and is marked as a national traitor. With the order from the King, the government forces try to capture him many times, only to capture three hundred of his manifestations. Eventually, to control him, the government offers him the job of War Minister in which he accepts. For a while, he is satisfied with his occupation, but later, he realizes that the people still suffer. To find out the truth, he departs for Nanking to seek truth there. On his way, by chance he discovers the nation of Yul-do, which was oppressed by demons. He defeats the demons, and is elected the king of Yul-do. However, he hears the news of his father’s death, and hurries back to Joseon to serve his father’s funeral for three years, according to tradition. After his service, he returns to Yul-do, where he lives happily as a king and hero.

Interestingly, Hong is shown as returning to serve his father’s funeral for three years, whereas his father attempted to murder him years ago. This reveals Hong’s heroic state of mind furnished by Heo Gyun.

My Review:

Keren..keren.. Empat jempol buat film ini. Ini film isinya campur aduk. Ada unsur humorisnya, cinta, perang, cerita silat, dll. banyak deh. Udah seperti gado2, tapi gak kehilangan ceritanya. Sampe detik ini baru selesai nonton 5 episode. Sampe teler nih mata. Begitulah klo nontonnya gak dicicil. Bisa lupa segalanya.

Yang suka Jang Geun Suk alias Eun Ho dalam serial drama Hwang Ji Ni, bakal ketemu lagi tuh. Sang doi bakal berperan sebagai pangeran yg hilang yg mencoba merebut kembali tahta kerajaan yg harusnya jadi miliknya. Kang Ji Hwan alias Gil Dong, dia bakal jadi tokoh laksana robin hood. Dia anaknya Mentri. Tapi gak dianggap. Soalnya lahir dari seorang pembantu. Sung Yu Ri alias Yi Nok, kemungkinan anak seorang pejabar penting. Masih lon jelas. Ini orang rada gokil, naif, culun dan juga jorok. Tapi dia cantik.. ehm.. Ujung2nya dia jadi temenan sama Gil dong. Padahal sebelumnya ribut terus.

Pada beberapa kesempatan Yi Nok ketemu sama Lee Chang Hwi (Jang Geun Suk). Tentunya dengan pertemuan yg selalu tidak diinginkan. Soalnya setiap kali ketemu, ada saja tindakan bodoh Yi Nok.

Satu lagi, Kim Ri Na as Seo Eun Hye. Ini juga putri pejabat penting. Biasa di pingit, tau2 keluar. Sekalinya main, dia mampirnya ke tempat rumah bordil. Pengen tau aja. Disini dia ketemu sama Gil Dong. Eun Hye ngakunya gisaeng baru. Dari sini dia kesengsem berat sama Gil Dong. Tapi pada akhirnya waktulah yg berbicara. Gil Dong pun tau…. dst

Yg bikin kocak, walaupun ini cerita fiktif, tapi unsur modern juga di masukin. Lampu disko di pake. Tari latarnya bergaya disko, rap, dll. Golf juga ada. Entah ada apa lagi nanti. Yang jelas nih film layak di tonton. Sangat menghibur. Endingnya seperti apa? Silakan aja di cicipi sendiri.
